Allen Roberts established Roberts Electric Motors in 1978 after working as a technician and business manager for another repair firm for nearly 20 years. A lifetime resident, Allen chose a spot in bustling Frederick Town Historic District and opened up shop with four company employees, three of whom still work for REM. The location allowed him to grow the business while building relationships with customers throughout the region. The company's success eventually enabled them to relocate to a larger facility that has a 4,000 sq. ft. workshop and 1,500 sq. ft. of warehouse space.
Over the past 25+ years, the company has evolved into
a close-knit team
of 12 employees, including 6 highly trained technicians.
REM's extremely low turnover is due to Allen's flexible,
personal approach to management and skill in finding individuals
who share his passion for pride in workmanship. His extended
"family" is also protected with a benefits package
that rivals much larger companies.
"It's really a matter of treating everyone the way we'd like to be treated," says Allen. "When employees are treated with respect they do a better job for the customer."
